On 30th May 2024, CMR-Africa, in collaboration with the Office of the Registrar Magistrates Court and the Law Society of Kenya, took the lead in organizing a pivotal Training on Practice in the Small Claims Court. The training featured esteemed panelists, including Deputy Registrar Hon. Susan Gitonga, Hon. Jane Munene, and Hon. Caroline Okumu. The comprehensive agenda covered an overview of the Small Claims Court Act, the Small Claims Court Rules, best practices for advocates, and a brief introduction to Mahakama Popote.
The event attracted 372 Advocates of the High Court of Kenya, highlighting the significant interest in this area. As the Small Claims Court is a relatively new institution aimed at the expeditious resolution of disputes through relaxed procedural and evidentiary rules, the training was notably timely.
Attendees provided overwhelmingly positive feedback, praising the session as important, timely, insightful, and informative. Many advocates requested more sessions to further enhance their understanding and practice in the Small Claims Court, underscoring the impact and success of CMR-Africa’s initiative.
